Die features and types, and methods of use

Die

This is a cutting tool for machining male thread (correcting the screw thread ridge).

Solid type (solid die)
While the size cannot be adjusted, its solidity means that it can withstand heavy cutting.

Adjustable type (round die with adjustment screw)
There is a crack, and the size can be adjusted using an adjustment screw.

Screw size
The outer diameter of the screw to be manufactured. (It specifies the size.)

Pitch
This is the size between the thread ridges of the thread section.

Die outer diameter
Outer diameter of the die itself.
This is necessary to select the die handle.

1. Insert the engraved surface of the die into the die handle so that it touches the workpiece, and fix with a set screw.
2. Hold the workpiece horizontally, and chamfer it by rotating it 2 to 3 times.
3. Repeat the work to turn the screw approx. 3/4 of a rotation, and then rotate back 1/4 rotation. (The finish will be better if lubricant oil such as tapping oil is used.)
